Ortho-Gnostics, Inc. was incorporated over 3 years ago, when we first went looking for overseas EU funding, via a ‘sister’ company we incorporated in the Wales/UK under the name Ortho-Gnostics, LTD. Our UK company was a pre-requisite to apply for EU funding, which unfortunately never materialized; the funding source and the principals basically self-destructed, along with over 3 years’ worth of our effort.
The purpose of incorporating Ortho-Gnostics, Inc. in the USA was to facilitate a US based large equity investment; i.e., Mekanika is the sole shareholder in Ortho-Gnostics, Inc., and a new equity investor would only have to work with one owner, Mekanika, Inc., and not its 400 individual Shareholders. Mekanika represents its 400 shareholders.
The name Ortho-Gnostics was chosen based on the Company’s primary goal - to be the market leader - the main national and international information source – for evidenced based practices [46] Personalized Medicine PM [47], and now Precision Medicine [48] for the treatment of spine (back pain) patients, including prevention in current and future back patients, for being the host of the sole/largest diagnostic database for all spine surgery outcomes and conservative care outcomes.
It is our position that whoever owns the database information can control the market. From knowing which patients best benefit from surgery, and the different types of surgery, and which patients best benefit from conservative, and the types of conservative care, or a combination of both surgery and conservative care. Of the surgery patients, we want to know which spinal implants work best, from fusion rods/implants to dynamic stabilization implants, or no implant at all.
Gnostics[49] means: Relating to, pertaining to, or possessing intellectual knowledge, and, “relating to knowledge,” 1650s, from Greek gnostikos “knowing, able to discern,” from gnostos “known, perceived, understood,” from gignoskein “to learn, to come to know”.
It means breaking free of the conformity set forth to us by existing diagnosis and treatment modalities. The gathering of information and knowledge about spinal joint disease, treatments and diagnosis, both during clinic and during surgery, and patient follow-up, on a grand scale, and using this knowledge to effect proper treatment. Based on the need for much better patient outcomes knowledge, possessing knowledge, to learn, and allowing for the ability to discern, in this case to discern between the best treatments for any one patient or group of patients led to the inclusion of the term Gnostics in the Company name Ortho-Gnostics.
